Hubertus Roebben

Biography

Hubertus (Bert) Roebben studied theology, education and canon law at the KU Leuven (Belgium). He was teaching at the universities of Leuven (Belgium), Tilburg (the Netherlands) and Dortmund (Germany), before being appointed to the chair of religious education at the Faculty of Catholic Theology of the University of Bonn in 2017. He served as president of the International Association for the Study of Youth Ministry (www.iasym.org) and the Religious Education Association (www.religiouseducation.net). Since 2019 he is appointed as extraordinary professor at the Faculty of Theology of Stellenbosch University (South-Africa). His publications include Dutch, German and English contributions to the field of education/theology in general and moral/spiritual education particularly. In English he published among others Seeking Sense in the City. European Perspectives on Religious Education (2013), Theology Made in Dignity. On the Precarious Role of Theology in Religious Education (2016) and recently Educating Religious Education Teachers (together with Berglund, Schreiner and Schweitzer, 2023). Bert Roebben is married and father of three adult children.
