Joanna Lumbsden-Pinto is a forest ecologist from the province of Veraguas in Panama. She completed her PhD in Ecosystem Restoration at SUNY ESF, following a Master's in Conservation Biology supported by a Fulbright-IFARHU-SENACYT scholarship. Her research focuses on vegetation dynamics and resilience in fire-prone ecosystems, with particular attention to how climate variability shapes forest regeneration and structure. Her fieldwork spans Panama and the northeastern United States, with additional field experience in Mexico and Ecuador. She values collaboration with local communities, including Indigenous peoples, on conservation and restoration initiatives. Joanna is committed to mentoring emerging scientists from underrepresented backgrounds and to strengthening research capacity in Latin America. She is deeply interested in the dialogue between faith, ethics, and environmental stewardship.
